World By Cycle project interviews John Jacoby(All events - Posted 26/01/2012)
John Jacoby’s reputation for ultra endurance (both enduring and inflicting) is without question; after all, he has held multiple world titles in marathon kayaking, multisport and adventure racing.
So no wonder a new adventure and education initiative dubbed World By Cycle was keen to catch up with Rapid Ascent's director to talk about the project.
They wanted to see what John thought about their upcoming adventure, and learn a bit more about his path to sporting success, his view on the world of adventure travel and childhood education, all of which are important themes to the World By Cycle project.

Extended field limit for the 50km Kona Shorty(All events - Posted 23/01/2012)
Rapid Ascent is very happy to announce that we have extended the field limit for the 50km Kona Shorty from 600 riders to 800 riders to allow more riders to take part in this iconic event.
The 50km Kona Shorty sold out in early Janaury so this announcement will make all the riders currently hanging on the waiting list very happy knowing they have a definite ride on the day.
“We are very cautious about extending the field limit," says Race Director John Jacoby, “as we do not want to compromise the riders’ experience by squeezing too many riders onto the course and causing congestion on the trails. We will start the 50km riders in two wave starts to spread the field out and have also made some slight changes to the course from last year to help handle the extra numbers."
The 100km Kona Odyssey is also proving popular and is expecting a near capacity field for the full distance event as well, but there is a definite shift towards the 50km event for this year – are we all getting softer in our old age?!
ENTRY LOGISTICS:
Those riders currently on the waiting list were given prior advice of this new entry limit last week and encouraged to submit their entry on the website entry system HERE. We now publicise the entry extension to the general public so that anyone can now ENTER themselves into the event until it reaches its new limit of 800 riders – so if you are still to enter either the 50km or 100km events you are encouraged to get your entry in soon as both events are still expected to sell out well before race day.

Kona Odyssey champ returns to battle for fourth title(All events - Posted 17/01/2012) Take a look back at the rap sheet - the one worth looking at in the form of the results record - and it's clear that Chris 'Jungleblood' Jongewaard is the man to beat on the Kona Odyssey course come 18th February. He's won every event he's entered on the Otway slopes (2008, 2009, 2011). The first year he didn't compete and 2010 he was unfortunately still legging it on the wind trainer in custody. Controversy surrounding Jungleblood has mostly abated as he's chased World Cup Click here for full story ...

Adventure in the Garden of Eden(All events - Posted 21/12/2011) It’s like a gathering of the adventure gods – cough, strike that – a gathering of the adventure retirees, all too stubborn to let go of the rusty ice pick or the idea that they can still knock off a mountain or three. And so it is that a clan of mountain men – once rulers of adventure racing thrones in Australia and New Zealand – now gather annually to take on risky(ish) forays that still strike out into the field of adventure as much as bodies and minds weathered by decades of wild outdoors lif Click here for full story ...
